verb [ trans. ](esp. of an official body) absolve (someone) from blame for a fault or wrongdoing, esp. after dueconsideration of the case the court-martial exonerated me they should exonerate these men from this crime.See note at absolve .( exonerate someone from) release someone from (a duty or obligation).
